We are now at 18 weeks and the belly is definitely starting to "pop". It's cool to see the changes in my body now that I'm not feeling the queasiness and exhaustion of the first trimester to remind me that I am in deed pregnant.
Because of the appearance of the tummy I made the decision to tell my principal, co-workers and eventually students at school. Thanks to Jenny for the great idea on how to break it to the kiddos!
I made the new bulletin board asking in Spanish, "what gender is baby Legere?" and then had my students guess about the meaning. Right away they thought it was Valentine's Day related. I told them that it was something to do with love. Then inevitably there would be a student who connected bebé with the word baby and that I was pregnant.
I told the kids that I am finding out the gender at the end of the month (January 31st). If they wanted to guess at the gender, they could write their name on either a pink or blue post it and stick it to the appropriate side. If they guessed right, when I find out, I will give them a small prize - maybe some pink or blue candy or a sticker or something cute!
It was such a fun idea because it really got the kids excited and anticipating the news of the gender of the baby almost as much as Marc and I. (Stickers and candy can do wonders to inspire kids!!)
I need a recount, but I believe there were 68 votes for a girl and 61 for a boy. We'll see if they're correct! Marc is convinced that we're having a girl - which now has got me convinced of the same. However, we are going to be very excited about having either a boy or a girl and are really just wanting a healthy child.
We'll keep you updated on what we discover on January 31st!
xoxo
